Abstract
PURPOSE: To heat-treat only a desired part easily by a method wherein a liquid mixture containing pulverized graphite is coated on the objective part to be heat-treated, when conducting a heat treatment such as quenching on a surface of a work by using a laser beam.
CONSTITUTION: The work 4 is placed on a movable table 5, and the graphite-containing liquid mixture is coated on the objective part of the surface of the work 4. The liquid mixture is prepared by mixing the pulverized graphite having a particle size of not greater than 1μm in water or a volatile solvent, and is coated on the objective part by drip coating, spray-gun coating, brush coating or the like so as to produce a graphite film in a thickness of 10W60μm. Then, the laser beam L from a laser oscillator 1 is projected onto the coated surface through a reflecting mirror 2 and a focusing lens 3, thereby conducting the heat treatment such as quenching. Since the laser beam is absorbed by the graphite film, a local heat treatment of a part of a complicated shape can also be performed extremely easily.
