Abstract

PURPOSE: To control vectors to be controlled such as air-fuel ratio, ignition timing and rate of recirculation of exhaust gas correctly, by storing a state function modelling the dynamic characteristics of respective sensors into a computor, and making an effective use of the state function.
CONSTITUTION: Dynamic characteristics of various engine controlling means and engine itself are stored in a computor 10, and relationship between control inputs and control outputs is detected by a computor model. For instance, a state function dynamically indicating the relationship between fuel supplied from carburetor and the amount of fuel in engine 9 and the signal of an exygen sensor is prepared and stored in computor 10. Here, if the model of this state function is in conformity with the engine condition, it is judged that the air-fuel ratio is controlled correctly. However, if the rate of fuel supply is changed due to deterioration of a controlling means, for instance, acceleration pump of carburetor, the extent of this deterioration is detected from the model of state function and proper correction is applied to the mechanism of acceleration pump.
