Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect the optical thyristor connected in series from the overcurrent by a method wherein the optical thyristor is fed both signals of light and electricity. CONSTITUTION:When voltages at both ends of the optical thyristor 1 are turned to operating voltages (s sum of the operating voltages of a constant voltage element 12 and a negative resistance element 13), the negative resistance element 13 brakes over to cause the current to rapidly flow. The currents flow to a light emission element 2 to cause it to luminesce, and when the sum of the terminal voltages of the light emission element 2 and a resistor 15 exceeds the operating voltage of a constant voltage element 14, the currents flow to the constant voltage element 14 also, and those currents are fed to a gate terminal of the optical thyristor through a resistor 16. That is, with the overvoltages, the light emitted from the light emission element 2 runs to the gate terminal of the light and the same currents flow to the gate terminal for the electrical signals.
