Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an image always free from fog, by providing a pretransfer corona discharger having a control grating between a developing zone and a transfer zone, and changing bias voltage in accordance with image control. CONSTITUTION:Control grating 5 is provided opposite to and about 1mm. apart from the surface of photoreceptor 1 in the opening of pretransfer corona discharger 2 having shield 2a and discharge electrode 3, and voltage is applied to grating 5 from bias voltage source 6. This voltage is changed gradually in accordance with change of an image controller, and electric fields promotive and represssive of corona ions are formed between the surface potential of photoreceptor 1 and control grating 5, thus permitting a fogging toner on photoreceptor 1 to be converted into an opposite polarity, and not to be transferred to a transfer material.
