Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the influence of edge effect, increase the density variable width of line images and obtain stable copied images by controlling the surface potential of a photoreceptor after electrostatic charging and developing bias potential in such a way that the potential difference of both is made approximately constant. CONSTITUTION:An image density control device selects beforehand a constant developing bias potential valve and supplies the supply electric power corresponding to this selected potential value to a developing sleeve 5 by a supply circuit 12. If the surface potential of the photoreceptor is so controlled by such device that the potential difference V(V=O-VB) between the surface potential VO of the photoreceptor and developing bias voltage VB goes 200V, the density variable width of line images is increased as shown and this results in that the density differences between the line images and solid images can be maintained approximately constant despite the fluctuation in the developing bias potential, whereby the stable copied images are obtained.
