Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten the light path length to reduce the insertion loss, by transmitting the optical signal from the input optical fiber to the output optical fiber through a continuous variable attenuating plate, an aperture part, a reflection mechanism, and a step variable attenuating plate. CONSTITUTION:Input light beam 33 from input lens 32 provided in the end part of input optical fiber 31 passes through small-diameter continuous variable attenuating disc 34 and is incident to the slope of, for example, equilateral right-angled prism 39 through aperture part 351 of large-diameter disc 35 which has the same axis as this small-diameter continuous variable attenuating disc 34 and has aperture part 351 provided along the circumference of attenuating disc 34 in the part facing to continuous variable attenuating disc 34 and has plural (8 in the figure) step variable attenuating plates 352 in the outside circumferential part which does not face to continuous variable attenuating disc 34, and this incident light beam is reflected totally twice in this prism 39 and passes step variable attenuating plates 352 of large-diameter disc 35 and becomes output light beam 36 and is transmitted to output optical fiber 38 through output lens 37.
