Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent runaway of the carriage where the head is mounted, by discriminating whether the head position signal of the upper or lower disc pack is normal or not and by performing positioning through the position signal of the other pack if it is abnormal. CONSTITUTION:Position signals 41 and 42 from two servo discs pass through analogue switch 48 or 48' in accordance with L or H of select signal 40 and control the upper or lower head through operational amplifier 49 and controller 50. Meanwhile, position signal 43 is inputted to comparators 45 and 45' and is compared with upper or lower slice level 32 or 34; and if the signal exceeds one slice level at least, output 34 is set to H. When signal 34 holds the L state within a prescribed time width of pulse 35 generated from monostable multivibrator 44 by signal 31 from the CPU, select signal 40 switches 48 and 48' through FFs 46 and 47 to select the position signal of the opposite side, thereby preventing runaway of the carriage.
