Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a malfunctiom, and to prevent generation of ''drop'' or ''jump'', by stopping an automatic tracking operation, and forcibly driving a reproducing head, when a reproducing RF signal has become a prescribed level or below, in a VTR. CONSTITUTION:An RF signal from a VTR1 is inputted to an automatic tracking circuit 2 as information of tracking, and is processed. Also, the RF signal is inputted to an RF signal level detecting circuit 3, its RF signal level is detected, and as a result, it is outputted to a controlling circuit 4. In accordance with a signal from the RF signal level detecting circuit 3, the controlling circuit 4 stops a regular operation of the automatic tracking circuit 2, and controls it forcibly so as to execute a prescribed operation. The automatic tracking circuit 2 is connected to a head driving element 5 of the VTR1, usually executes an automatic tracking operation, and executes an operation controlled by the controlling circuit 4, in a section detected by the RF signal level detecting circuit 3.
