Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered Al composite body with superior friction characteristics and wear resistance by dispersing glass ceramic particles coated with a specified metal, its oxide, ceramic, etc. in a sintered Al metallic material followed by mixing and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: The surfaces of hard glass ceramic particles of 1W400μm particle size are coated with a mixture of a metal such as Cu or Ag or its oxide and ceramic, and the particles are added to a sintered Al metallic material by ≥1wt% using the coated layers as middle layers. They are then mixed and sintered. The metal matrix and the glass ceramic are bonded together firmly and densely through the middle layers. Accordingly, the resulting composite body has superior friction characteristics and wear resistance at high speed, high load and high temp.
