PURPOSE:To constitute an optical switch and an optical circulator by controlling both components of the P wave and S wave separated by a dielectric multilayer light polarizing filter so as to rotate the same then combining these. CONSTITUTION:Input light 7 is separated to S wave 8 and P wave 9 by the polarizing filter 1A of a polarizer 3A. The S wave is totally reflected by a polarizer 13A. Thereafter, the respective waves pass through a light control means 14 (for example, the mode for rotating the light 90 deg. or the mode for not doing this), after which they are combined by a polarizer 3B (a total reflection surface 13B and a polarizing filter 1B), and according to the mode of the light control means 14, the directions 12, 12' of the output light are changed over and the combined light is outputted.
