Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a compact ignition coil of good insulation, by furnishing a flange on an end of a primary coil bobbin, providing the flange with a grounding terminal hole and an annular stepped part for holding an end of the secondary coil bobbin and by making an annular groove on the outermost peripheral part of the flange to mount an injection molding case. CONSTITUTION:The low voltage side of the secondary coil 4 is placed at the flange 8 of a primary coil bobbin 1. A grounding terminal 6 is inserted into the hole of the flange 8 and connected to the low voltage side of the secondary coil 4. An injection molding case 5 is inserted into a groove on the peripheral part of the flange 8 and secured. Insulating resin is injected and solidified to manufacture a coil unit 10. Numerous L-shaped core plates 12 are inserted into the central angle hole of the coil unit. Other numerous L-shaped core plates 13 are attached with a spacer 14 to the outside of the coil unit. The coil units is integrated by resin 15, thereby completing an ignition coil. According to this constitution, a grounding wire can be easily attached, the reliability of insulation is high and the low voltage side of the secondary coil adjoins the flange 8 of the primary coil bobbin. As a result, no creeping discharge occurs on the bobbin and the insulation of the coil is enhanced.
