Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively desulfurize a stack gas system of drastically changing SO2 concentrations by performing both of absorption and oxidation of SO2 simultaneously in an adsorption tower provided with spray nozzles and packing layers.
CONSTITUTION: A stack gas of SO2 concentrations fluctuating according to operating conditions is flowed upward in an adsorption tower packed with packing materials. An aqueous basic aluminum sulfate soln. is sprayed toward these packing materials with spray nozzles. For example, if the rate of spraying of the aqueous soln. is set at 288m3/Hr where SO2 concn. fluctuates between about 1,000W 3,000ppm, the SO2 concn. is made about 0.96ppm and the basicity constant. The oxygen concn. in the stack gas is about 5W10% and the temp. of the stack gas above 40°C. In this way, the oxygen in the stack gas is effectively utilized by the combination use of the spray nozzles and the packing materials. It is necessary to maintain the oxygen concn. in the stack gas at above about 5%.
