Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit an on-line measurement of steel plates or the like to be ready by applying a characteristic X-ray in parallel beams to a rolled metal plate by operating a X-ray source over a range of a fixed angle, and detecting the diffracted X- ray by means of a position-sensitive detector, in order to measure density distribution. CONSTITUTION:A characteristic X-ray in parallel beams is applied to the area on a rolled metal plate 7 by operating a X-ray source 1-1 over a range of a fixed angle, and the diffracted X-ray from the rolled plate 7 is detected by means of a position- sensitive X-ray detector 1-3 arranged along a circular arc. The intensity of the diffracted X-ray from each crystal face obtained by the wave-form analysis of the diffracted X-ray is compared with the random intensity obtained from a random orientation crystal face, in order to measure the axial density distribution parallel to the normal direction of the rolled plate 7. The axial density of each crystal lattice face is calculated by, for example, by operating the X-ray tube 1-1 in a head 1 by a traverse drive controller 4 and an X-ray generator 2, and transmitting signals from the detector 1-3 to an electronic computer 5 through a controller 3, in which a fixed operation is processed.
