Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled discriminating instrument, structure thereof is simple and which is small-sized and can be utilized for detecting a water level of a condensing reservoir, by a method wherein one end of an object of high thermal conductivity is contacted with a fluid to be discriminated as a heat absorbing section, and the flow rate of heat flowing to a radiating section of the other end is detected.
CONSTITUTION: When a heat absorbing section of a metallic bar 2 is disposed into steam in a condensing reservoir pipe 1, a fixed quantity of heat passes through the metallic bar 2 at all times and a thermocouple 7 continues to detect a uniform temperature because the heat absorbing section is heated continually by steam. When a water level of condensation in the pipe 1 rises and the heat absorbing section immerses in the condensation, however, heat around the metallic bar 2 is robbed of by the condensation, and temperature drops. Consequently, temperature shown on the thermocouple 7 also drops. As a result, steam and condensation can be discriminated. Thus, the titled discriminating instrument is obtained which is small-sized, simple in structure and easy to be mounted and can detect the water level of the condensation.
