Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a Cu alloy for a gear having superior wear resistance in combination with a steel gear by combinedly adding Ni and Fe to a high tensile brass alloy extracting an Mn-Si intermetallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A gear used in combination with a gear made of steel contg. cast iron is manufactured by using a Cu alloy having a composition consisting of 54W 66% Cu, 1.0W5.0% Al, 1.0W5.0% Mn, 0.2W1.5% Si, 0.5W4.0% Ni, 0.2W2.0% Sn, 0.1W2.0% Fe and the balance Zn. The wear resistance of this alloy is enhanced by the formation of an Mn-Si intermetallic compound, and the coexistent Ni and Fe make the compound fine and extract it. This alloy is a wear resistant Cu alloy of high tensile brass type causing little wear of a steel gear as a constituent material for the opposite gear to the steel gear.
