Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between a specific amine and a dihalogenated alkane is effected in the presence of water and an acid acceptor to produce a specific amine in high yield simply and safely with no use of organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: An amine of formula I (R1 is 1W6C alkyl which may be substituted with water-insoluble substituents; benzene ring A may be substituted with lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen) and a compound of formula II (Hal is Cl, Br, I; R2 is 3W10C alkylene) are made to react at a molar ratio of 2:1 to produce the amine of formula III. The reaction is conducted preferably in the presence of water and an acid acceptor such as sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate at a temperature of 60W120°C.
