Abstract
PURPOSE:To predict the coccurrence of slopping so that the refining condition is controlled to prevent its occurrence by detecting the uprizing slag level due to slag formation in the steel making refining process using a converter. CONSTITUTION:Gas blowing pipes 2, 2' having opening are embedded in the inner wall of a converter 1 at locations of allowable height for molten slag which is uprising with slag formation. The pipes are provided with a pressure detector 3 and are connected to a gas feeder 4. From the feeder 4, gas such as air, nitrogen, or argon is blown in to detect a pressure rise in the pipes 2, 2', when slag comes to the position of the pipes 2, 2' which is caused by slag formation occurring as oxygen blowing proceeds. This pressure rise is used to predict slopping that might follow. At this time, the operating condition such as the height of lance 8 or oxygen pressure is controlled, so that slopping is prevented from occurring.
