Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve dynamic characteristics as well as compact the exhaust system of an engine by connecting the exhaust port of the engine directly to the exhasut turbine intake.
CONSTITUTION: One end of an exhaust port 2 formed in a cylinder head 1 is directly connected, without passing through an exhaust pipe, to an exhaust intake 6 of an exhaust turbine housing 5 of an exhaust turbine supercharger 12. On the other hand, a variable flow rate area type turbine nozzle 13 is installed in the housing 5 and is connected to a pressure detecting mechanism (15W21) through a control lever 14 so that the backpressure may be automatically controlled. Thus, a decrease in the loss of exhaust motion energy and prevention of an abnormal engine backpressure may be achieved.
