Abstract
PURPOSE:To arrange heating elements near the edge of a head substrate by connecting N+1 pieces of electrode at a position equivalent to every 1/N of a resistance formed by sequentially connecting heating elements in a thermal head consturcted by a row of longitudinally arranged heating elements. CONSTITUTION:Continuous heating elements 9 which construct a heat-generating resistance are installed near the edge of a ceramic or other substrate 8. N+1 pieces of electrode 10 (wherein N is the number of heating element) are linked together at a prearranged pitch (almost 1/N of the heat-generating resistance). A drive circuit 22 in dots forming each heating element is determined by an input 19 and an output of the proceeding dot. That is, when either one of the input 19 and the output 20 of the proceeding dot is at ''L'' level and the other is at ''H'' level, the output 21 is at ''H'' level. In the head constituted in this manner, the quality of print is high and, in addition, the heating element is exceedingly close to the edge of the substrate, so the characters printed immediately before can be recognized visulally without being hidden by the heating elements.
