Abstract
PURPOSE: To simplify the fuel injection pump construction by having one pump plunger perform the main fuel injection through its reciprocating movement while rotating at same time and also perform the pilot fuel injection using the intervals between such main fuel injections.
CONSTITUTION: When applied to a 3-cylinder 4-cycle engine, a pump plunger 20 is moved forward by a main cam extrusion 35 as the first cylinder 11 of an engine 1 approaches the end of the compression cycle connecting a main distribution port 48 to the first discharge port 41 thereby sending the fuel in a pressure chamber 40 and a port 47 to a main nozzle 21 for the main injection. As the first cylinder 11 goes into the explosion cycle by said injection and the third cylinder 13 goes into the suction cycle delayed by 120° crank angle, the plunger 20 is moved forward by a pilot cam extrusion 58 connecting a pilot distribution port 59 to the third discharge port 43 to make a pilot injection to the third cylinder 13 at the end of the exhaust cycle or the start of the suction cycle.
