Abstract
PURPOSE: To save fuel consumed in a direct-injection type diesel engine by altering its component related to the improvement in combustion and cycle efficiency and the reduction of cooling loss so as to agree with given values.
CONSTITUTION: The trunk piston four-cycle direct-injection type diesel engine having an exhaust turbosupercharger is provided with a plunger type high-pressure fuel injection pump 6 which injects a heavy fuel oil under a high pressure. The pressure to inject the fuel into a cylinder 1 from a fuel injection valve 7 is to be more than 1,200kg/cm2. In order to complete combustion in the shortest possible time, a fuel injection pump cam 12 is used having a shape by which the period for injecting the fuel into the cylinder 1 is what shown by a turning angle of a crankshaft 5 of less than 28°.
