Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the overheating of a reformer which is heated by the exhaust gas of an engine in which alcohol is reformed by the reformer and reformed alcohol gas is introduced into an intake section, by introducing air in front of the reformer.
CONSTITUTION: An alcohol reformer 2 and an alcohol evaporator 1 are sequentially installed in the exhaust pipe 3 of an engine 11. Alcohol in a tank 5 is introduced into the evaporator 1 by a pump 4. The evaporated alcohol is reformed by the reformer 2. The reformed alcohol gas is conducted into the intake section of the engine 11 through a gas valve 10. Air can be introduced into an exhaust pipe portion 3A in front of the reformer 2 through an air pump 21 and a check valve 22 to reduce the temperature of the reformer if necessary.
