Abstract
PURPOSE:To correct errors produced by dropout efficiently by recording the parity bit formed by the data on the 1st track and the data on the 2nd track on the 1st track spaced from the point where the data on the 2nd track was recorded. CONSTITUTION:A parity is made by the block 14 on a signal format 12, and the block 15 on a signal format 13, and is recorded in the block 16 on the signal format 12 in which the space from the block 14 is taken wide. This relation is expressed by 16=14+15. The error of the block 14 or 15 is correctable if the parity of the block 16 is correct. Then the errors of the two blocks among the three blocks are incorrectable. However, the blocks 14, 15 are recorded in separate tracks, and the possibility for the simultaneous occurrence of errors is less. Since they are spaced from each other in the tape length direction, the occurrence of an error owing to the longitudinal creases of the tape is avoided as well. The blocks 14 and 16 are prevented from causing errors simultaneously by making the space between the blocks wide.
