Abstract

PURPOSE:To speed drecording and reproduction and to simplify a control circuit by making one-byte, nine-bit constitution, including a parity bit, to a writing and reading head and by recording and reproducing a signal, byte by byte, in parallel. CONSTITUTION:A recording and reproducing head 3 fitted to a movable head arm 2 consists of nine recording and reproducing head elements and has one-byte, nine- bit constitution including a parity bit. Then, the head 3 moves over tracks 4 on a disk 1 by nine bits at one pitch to write and read data, byte by byte, in parallel. Therefore, the processing time is shortened, a series-parallel and a parallel-series converting circuit are unnecessary, and a recording and modulation system is simplified because of parity bits, decreasing an error rate. Consequently, recording and reproduction are speeded and a control circuit is simplified; and the reliability and the recording capacity of a disk are increased.
