Abstract

PURPOSE:To automate the series of processes of electric discharge machining by automatically changing over the dielectric fluids according to the machining process in an electric discharge machining apparatus. CONSTITUTION:Solenoid valves 7, 8, 9 and 12 are provided halfway the respective circuits; the dielectric fluid circuit led to an electrode holder 2, the circuit led to a jet nozzle 6 and the circuit led to a suction jar 5 on the side of a workpiece 4. In rough machining, of these solenoid valves 7, 8, 9 and 12, the valve 7 is opened to allow the dielectric fluid to spout from the hole made in a working electrode 3. Moreover, the valve 8 is opened to allow the dielectric fluid to spout from the jet nozzle 6 to the spark gap. Then, in finish machining, the valves 9 and 12 are opened to allow the dielectric fluid in a tank 15 to flow through a suction manipulator 13, by whose suction action, the dielectric fluid at the spark gap is sucked through the suction jar 5 in order to avoid the secondary discharge due to sludge.
