Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the variation in the detecting characteristics of the photodetecting circuit having a light emitting element and a photodetector due to the change in the temperature by controlling the applied voltage so that the output from a photodetector separately provided is retained constantly. CONSTITUTION:The light emitted from the light emitting element 1 is applied to the first photodetector 2, and the light of amount responsive to the state of an article 7 is applied to the second photodetector 3. The output of the photodetector 3 is amplified by an amplifier 6, which in turn produces a detected output responsive to the state of the article 7. The voltage produced across a resistor R2 due to the output current of the photodetector 2 is applied to a differential amplifier 4 through a resistor R3 as a comparison voltage and compared with a voltage divided via resistors R4, R5 from the voltage of a reference power source 8. The output of the amplifier 4 is applied to the base of the transistor 5, and the transistor 5 is so controlled that the voltage produced at the resistor R2 becomes always constant.
