Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a constant modulated photo output regardless of temperature characteristics and elapse characteristics of a laser diode (LD), by controlling a bias current and a modulated signal input both by the output of the LD. CONSTITUTION:The photo output of LD1 is converted into an electric signal by photo detection element 5. This signal is amplified and then its low-frequency component is extracted by LPF7 to control LD driver circuit 2 through bias circuit 8, thereby controlling the bias current of the driving current of LD1. As a result, the means value of the photo output becomes constant. As for an electric signal having passed through HPF10, on the other hand, a difference with modulation input 9 is found by error amplifier 11 to control variable amplifier 12, thereby making the modulated-signal component of the photo output of LD1 constant. The photo output can therefore be made constant even if the threshold level of the LD and the gradient of the characteristics of a driving current to a photo output more than the threshold level vary due to a temperature and an elapse.
