Abstract
A description is given of an arrangement for monitoring both the depth of modulation and the optical power of a light source, e.g. a GaAs laser. Feedback signals (PO, PM) are generated which correct the level of the threshold value bias (PO) and the depth (PM) of modulation of the laser, in order to eliminate the unfavourable effects of ageing and temperature. The arrangement monitors the optical output power when a portion is branched off from the light signal emerging from the surface of the laser at the front or at the rear and is detected by means of a photodiode (1). <IMAGE>
