Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen an increase in loss due to an adjustment of the coupling degree of a photocoupler by enabling the adjustment over monitoring by forming a groove at the upper part of the coupler and then by adjusting the coupling state by partially fusing the worked surface. CONSTITUTION:In substrate 1, two light directing paths 2 and 2' are formed and those light directing paths are provided partially with parallel parts 2A and 2A' of length L. Over the gap between those coupling parts 2A and 2A', groove 3 is formed to length L-L1. Light is caused to strike those directing paths 2 and 2' and while output power is monitored, the substrate surface is fused from one end of groove 3 to the other end by arc discharge over the groove to fill the groove. Consequently, while the coupling state is monitored, the coupling degree can be adjusted and an increase in loss due to the adjustment can be lessened.
