Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely transfer the pilot arc of plasma welding to the main arc and eliminate welding interruption or the like by simultaneously increasing plasma gas or pilot arc current value immediately before the shift to the main arc at the producing of the pilot arc.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of a pilot arc intermission system of plasma welding, the plasma gas flow B is flowed at V1l/mm upon welding start. The V1l/mm is made larger (V1=1.2W4V2) than the flow (broken line) of conventional methods and the gas flow V2l/mm at the execution of welding. At the same time, high frequency waves are applied between the electrode and restrained chip to apply a pilot voltage and produce pilot arc. The increased plasma gas does not stagnate between the electrode and restrained chip and the pilot arc arrives at the objects to be welded, thus surely shifting to the main arc. In the case of a continuous system of the pilot arc, the specified quantity of the pilot arc current is increased simultaneously with gas quantity and the shift to the main arc is made sure by the synergistic effect thereof, thus the starting failure occuring in the gas stagnation of conventional methods is eliminated.
