Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled billet of superior surface characteristic through continuous casting by immersing an injecting nozzle below the bath surface of the mold in a hermetic chamber, and controlling the pressure of the hermetic chamber and the amount of injection of molten metal by the bath surface level detected while applying predetermined high-frequency oscillations.
CONSTITUTION: In obtaining small section metal billets of ≤1,000cm3, the injection nozzle 3 of the molten metal 1 in a tundish 1 is immersed into the molten metal 4 of a mold 5 and the required space above the bath surface is shut off from the atmospheric air to form a hermetic chamber 15. While high frequencies of 5W50kHz from a high-frequency oscillation generator 6 are applied to the mold 5, the molten metal bath surface level is detected by a sensor 8, and based on the results of said detection, the pressure of the hermetic chamber 15 is controlled to ≤3atm by changing e.g. compressed N2 gas pressure via a setter 10, a comparator 11 etc., whereby the bath surface level of the molten metal 4 is so corrected as to coincide with a reference level. In this way, the fluctuations of the bath surface are reduced.
