Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the surface characteristic of an ingot by selectively applying high-frequency energy while a mold is relatively ascending with respect to the ingot, in the oscillation motion of the mold.
CONSTITUTION: While the mold is relatively descending with respect to the ingot, the flaws on the surface of the ingot will not increase even if no high-frequency oscillation are given. Hence, during this time, making the high frequency oscillation off leads to increased efficiency of high-frequency energy. On the contrary, while the mold is relatively ascending with respect to the ingot, high-frequency energy is positively applied, by which the surface characteristic of the ingot is improved.
