Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to raise the temp. of molten steel by heating it while following the change of the molten steel level after the start of discharge, by providing a control means for the ascent and the descent of electrodes inserted into the ladle through the ceiling and a temp.-measuring means for the molten steel contained in the ladle.
CONSTITUTION: The accepted molten steel contained in a ladle 1, which is covered with ceiling 2, is kept at a rescribed temp. by energizing electrodes 3 inserted through the opening made in the ceiling 2. The temp. of the molten steel is measured by a temp.-measuring means 12. When the discharge of the molten steel is started and the arc length 10 at the top end of the electrodes 3 changes, the electrodes 3 are lowered by a control means 5 for the electrodes 3. When the molten steel level approaches the refractory material 18 at the bottom of the ladle, the length of the descending stroke of the electrodes 3 is read from the revolution of a drum 9 and warning for lowering limit 17 is given to a selsyn 8. The lowering limit 17 is set previously at a position which is a prescribed distance (t) above the lower limit-setting rest 16. Hence the pouring temp. is uniformalized and the clogging of the nozzle at the last stage of discharge of the molten steel is prevented.
