USE: Drug for improving hyperlipemia and cholesterol-lowering agent useful for the remedy of arteriosclerosis.
PROCESS: 4-Nitrocinnamic acid of formula II or its reactive derivative is reacted with 6-methyl-3-pyridinol of formula III in the persence of a dehydrohalogenating agent pref. sodium carbonate, etc., in a solvent such as ethyl acetate, at -30W +80°C to obtain 6'-methyl-3'-pyridy 4-nitrocinnamate of formula IV, which is suspended or dissolved in a solvent such as methanol and treated with a reducing agent such as palladium carbon to afford the compound of formula I.
