Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as an intermediate for preparing a physiologically active substance, by treating 4,4-dimethyl-enol acetate compound, a compound obtainable from various diterpene derivatives readily, as a starting raw material, with a peracid.
CONSTITUTION: Enol acetate compound shown by the formula I is treated with a peracid, e.g., m-perchlorobenzoic acid, perphthalic acid, etc., in a solvent, e.g., chloroform, etc. at 0W20°C, to give a compound shown by the formula II. The starting compound shown by the formula I is prepared by reacting a compound shown by the formula III with isopropenyl acetate in the presence of paratoluenesulfonic acid. The compound shown by the formula III is obtained readily by deriving an inexpensively and easily obtainable l-abietic acid occurring as a main ingredient of rosin.
