Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled compound used as intermediate for physiologically active substance, especially agandecidial [A] is prepared from 7-oxo-14-methoxydehydroabietic acid derivative that can readily be derived from 1-abietic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formulaI(R1, R2 are CH3, COOCH3; R3 is H, isoproply) is converted to the enolacetate of formula II, which is treated with a peroxide to form the objective compound of formula III (R4 is OH, OCOCH3). The acetylation of the compound of formula III having OH group gives the compound of formula III having OCOCH3 as R4. The starting material of formulaI can be readily derived from 1-abietic acid that is inexpensively available through conventional method.
EFFECT: Agandencidial has strong antifeedant activity against African army worms.
