Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible the reduction of the volume of penetrating heat, higher efficiency and resources-saving by a construction wherein an internal tank containing liquid helium together with a superconductive coil is supported by a supporting member made of fibers fixedly molded with a high power binder within an external tank. CONSTITUTION:An internal tank 2 containing liquid helium 5 and a superconductive coil 6 is supported in midair by a supporting member 4 within a vacuum external tank 1. This supporting member 4 is made of a fibrous material having high specific strength, molded fixedly with a high power binder in such a way that the direction of fibers is mated with that of tensile force applied to the member 4 in order to reduce the penetration of heat by increasing tensile strength. By so doing, a crack generated from a right angle to the load direction can be prevented, while tensile strength in an axial direction is made stronger.
