Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the angle of incidence of light to crystal, to simplify structure and to increase the angle of deflection of a light deflector, by providing a electrodes for high-frequency electric field application onto the surface of a transparent material substrate and by tapering the light emission surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:On transparent LiNbO3 (lithium niobate) plate 11 having a light emission surface tapered, cross finger electrode pattern 15 is formed by photolithography. When no electric field is applied to the cross finger electrodes, light 12 incident to LiNbO2 plate 11 is emitted in the direction of reference number 14 and after a high-frequency electric field is applied, it is emitted in the direction of reference number 14, so that this plate operates as a deflector. When taper angle 18 of the taper part in the figure is 65 deg., the relation between the deflection angle of the angle of deviation in the LiNbO3 plate and deflection angle (beta) is shown in figure 1(b), and when the deviation angle (alpha) is 4 deg., deflection angle (beta) is about 20 deg. which is extremely great.
