Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the electrical contact material which has low contact resistance and is excellent in resistance to fusing and abrasion due to arcing by adding an oxide of Bi-Sn and oxides of In and Zn, and optionally one of oxides of Ni and Co, into a matrix of Ag.
CONSTITUTION: Into the matrix consisting of Ag is added Bi2Sn2O7 in such an amount that Bi contact is 2W5wt% while Sn content is 4W8wt% and not more than two times of that of Bi. Further, 0.5W5wt% (as In) of In2O3 and 0.1W 4wt% (as Zn) of ZnO are dispersed into the matrix. optionally, 0.05W0.5wt% (as metal) of one oxide such as NiO, CoO, etc. is also added into the matrix, obtaining the electrical contact point material. The thus obtained Ag-metal oxide electrical contact point material has a low contact resistance, is excellent in resistance to fusing and abrasion due to arcing, and can endure being used for a long period of time.
