Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the resistance of an Ag-Bi2O3 type electrical contact point alloy to consumption due to fusion and discharge, and the workability thereof by adding SnO2 and CuO and/or ZnO to the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1W6.0 wt% (as Sn) of SnO2 is added to an Ag-Bi2O3 alloy consisting of Bi2O3; 1.5W6.0 wt% as Bi and the balance Ag to disperse oxide, Bi2Sn2O7 in the matrix Ag, thus obtaining a composite material. To the material is added CuO and/or ZnO in an amt.of 0.016W1.2 wt% as metal. The addn. of SnO2 improves the resistance of the alloy to consumption and fusion, and the addn. of CuO and/or ZnO results in an electrical contact point material of good workability. 0.1W0.5 wt% (as Ni) of NiO may be added to further enhance the contact point characteristics. The alloy can be manufactured by blending Ag and each oxide or internal oxidation.
