Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A quinazoline derivative of formula I and an acid addition salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 2-[ 4-( 3,4-Methylenedioxybenzoyl )piperazino ]-4-amino-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline.
USE: A hypotensive agent effective against essential hypertension, renovascular hypertension, etc. having a prolonged and powerful hypotensive effect with little inhibiting effect on the sympathetic nerve and low toxicity.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (X is halogen or alkylthio) is reacted with a compound of formula III in an inert organic solvent at normal to higher pressure under cooling or heating to give the compound of formula I.
