CONSTITUTION:In a gas-liquid contact apparatus, to a lower part of the downflow tower 13, the tower diameter enlarged part having a diameter 1.25 times or more larger than that of the intermediate part is provided. A gas is supplied into the donwflow tower 13 from a gas inlet 18 and a pump 14 is operated to recirculate a liquid 17 through pipes 15, 16, and, thereby, gas bubbles are involved in the liquid. The involved gas bubbles are stagnated in the tower diameter enlarged part 12 and caught in the liquid therein. The liquid is flowed out from a liquid outlet 11 and recirculated. Moreover, when a cross area of the downflow tower 13 is not circular, it is necessary to make a cross area of the tower diameter enlarged part 12 about 1.56 times larger than that of the intermediate part.
