Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to control welding heat input at points where welding is started and where welding is completed, respectively, and their vicinity and prevent generation of welding cracks, by shifting the electron beam from the weld line at a point where welding is completed, and, at the same time, by trailing the welding current in a shape of slope.
CONSTITUTION: In electron beam welding of weld lines such as curved shapes, electron beam 7 is focussed by means of electromagetic lens 12 and irradiated on welding starting point 3 of weld line 2. When relay contact point 21 is turned on by the signal from the beam current control device at welding completing point 3' or a point from which trailing of beam current is started, relay 22 is accelerated and relay contact point 22' is turned on. By this deflecting current IDF25 supplied from power source 23 to deflecting coil 13 through volume 24 increases in quantity, and electron beam 7 is deflected as shown by 7' and irradiated as shown by dotted line 4. As the result of this arrangement, overlapping of weld line 2 at welding starting point, welding completing point, and their vicinity is controlled and welding crack is prevented.
