Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely detect various kinds of damage which are just before the cutting-off of a steel tape, by magnetically detecting the damage and registering it on a recorder.
CONSTITUTION: A detector 13 comprises an exciter made of exciting elements 17, 17' attached to a guide 19 for a tape fixed along the bottom of the body of the detector and a yoke 18, and a detecting means 20. The distance between detecting elements and the tape 4, which is guided by the tape guide 19, is kept constant. Such detectors 13, 13' are provided in prescribed positions in an elevator machine room, pit or the like so that the detectors extend near the tape 4. A magnetic closed circuit is made of the exciting elements 17, 17', the yoke 18 and the tape 4. When the tape is not damaged, a detection signal of leakage flux detected by the detecting means 20 is almost constant. When the tape has a flaw A, a rising signal A' appears. As a result, the damage of the tape can be surely detected.
