Abstract

PURPOSE: A mold, which belongs to Sprotrichum and can produce coenzyme Q10, is cultured in an enriched medium, thus producing a large amount of coenzyme Q10 in low costs.
CONSTITUTION: An enriched culture medium, preferably culture solution, is prepared using appropriately glucose, etc., as carbon source, ammonium sulfate, etc., as nitrogen source, potassium dihydrogen phosphate or magnesium sulfate as inorganic salts, and, when necessary, a trace amount of organic nutrition, e.g., aminoacid or yeast essence. Then, a mold producing coenzyme Q10, e.g., Sprortrichum cellulophilium (FERM-P3514), is cultured in the enriched medium to accumulate coenzyme Q10 in the cells. The culture mixture is centrifuged or filtered to separate the cells and coenzyme Q10 is extrated and isolated from the cells.
