Abstract

PURPOSE: To collect D-ribose produced and accumulated by the cultivation of a variant belonging to Corynebacterium genus and capable of producing D-ribose.
CONSTITUTION: A variant which belongs to Corynebacterium genus and cannot be cultured in a medium containig D-ribose as only carbon source, e.g. Corynebacterium equi AJ11553 (FERM-P No.5398) which is a variant of Corynebacterium equi AJ 1768, is cultured in a conventional medium containing a C source, an N source, inorganic salts, and other components required by the bacterium, pref. at 25W45°C under aerobic conditions keeping the pH of the medium to 4.5W8.0 during cultivation. The produced D-ribose is separated by conventional process using ion-exchange resin, etc.
