Abstract

PURPOSE: A bacteria producing glycerol dehydrogenase is cultured in an enriched medium and the glycerol dehydrogenase is collected from the culture medium, thus permitting the low-cost production in practical scales.
CONSTITUTION: A bacteria producing glycerol dehydrogenase, which belongs to Aspergillus, Penicillium, Neurospora, Fusarium, Staphylococcus, Aeromonas, Sarcina, or Corynebacterium, is cultured in an enriched medium to accumulate the glycerol dehydrogenase in the cells of the bacterium. Then, the culture mixture is extracted, purified and dried to give the glycerol dehydrogenase. The enriched medium is, e.g., the one containing saccharides, nitrogen sources and inorganic salts or, when the dehydrogenase is in the form of derivative, glycerol and organic accelerators are added to the medium to increase the ability of producing the enzyme.
