Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the responding to rapid change of molten steel levels by operating the control amount through the use of respective control formulas according to the sampling level from a molten steel level detector thereby controlling the opening of the tundish nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: The molten steel level in a mold 7 is measured with plural radiation sources 9 and scintillation probe 10. The output of the probe 10 is made into level display signal by a rate meter 11 and this signal is inputted to an arithmetic unit 12. When the molten steel level sampled at every required time is within the specified range centering at the specified reference level, the control amount is operated by ordinary proportional, integrating and differentiating control formulas. When it deviates from the abovementioned range, the control amount is operated by separate control formulas. According to the control amount outputted by the arithmetic unit 12, the opening of a nozzle 14 is controlled by a stopper 5 via control console 13, valve stand 14 and hydraulic actuator 6. In addition, pinch rolls 8 are controlled as well by a control unit 16.
