Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure hardened depth simply without breaking a laser heat treated article by a method wherein, in case of measuring hardened depth of a laser heat treated article by using a beam out of a focus position, hardened depth is measured from hardened width calculated from etching hardened pattern of a surface there of. CONSTITUTION:The parallel laser beam a is focused by using a lens with a certain focal distance and a laser beam is irradiated at a position shifted from a focal point c at a predetermined amount. The relation of a hardened width CW of hardened pattern quenched by laser at various beam moving speeds and a hardened depth CD is designated at a line figure A(S43C) and B(FC25). In S43C, CD=0.42CW- 0.75, but 2<=CW<=6, and in FC25, CD=0.33CW-0.48, but 2<=CW<=6, therefore, after laser quenching, a surface hardened width CW is measured from hardened pattern by etching and a hardened depth CD is measured from the value of a hardened width.
