Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent preignition of an internal combustion engine, by igniting fuel through forming a focus of light beam with high energy density on fuel mist fed from a fuel injection valve.
CONSTITUTION: As high pressure fuel is fed in a combustion chamber 2 from an injection pump, a needle valve 7 is lifted due to pressure of fuel at its tip, and its action is transmitted, being converted into a coil signal of a transformer 12, to a delay circuit 22 and breaker 34. Then a high voltage 29 ionizes gas in a discharge tube 25 to emit light. This light beam with high energy density emitted from a ruby bar 24 passes through a luminous flux tube 15, flux passage 14, light transmissive body 18 and its tip 19 in a fuel injection valve 3 and forms a focus at the center in the fuel mist 36 for ignition.
